Overview
After completion of the research orientation (COMP 600), MSc CIS students taking the project-based route need to develop a proposal for their integration project. The project shall be in an area directly related to CIS and must have a research component.
The integration project should provide a useful demonstration of a novel capability using existing technology or explore a novel implementation technique. The project should be articulated around a well-defined research problem or hypothesis.
Outline
After completing COMP 600, students taking the project route should have completed the research scoping, the research initialization, and a good part of the literature review covering different aspects of the research question and problem to be solved.
Therefore, during COMP 697, students develop a project proposal that defines the research questions and outlines the implementation plan. The proposal should clearly describe the problem to be examined, articulate the research questions, describe supporting literature, identify data sources, and list potential participants. The project proposal should also present the research methodology to be used and outline the design of the proposed solution.
Evaluation
To
receive credit for the integration project, the student must obtain a
PASS grade for each of the required courses.
Materials
The course materials are available in electronic format and include a Project Handbook, which provides guidelines and explains the project stages, and the MSc CIS Style Guide.
Special Course Features
A project proposal examination is conducted at the end of COMP 697. A supervisory committee is required for the project proposal examination.
