Admission requirements

1. Graduation from an approved RN diploma program.
2. Regulated (Practicing) RN registration/licensure with a Canadian province or territory. Proof of registration must be submitted at time of application and maintained while completing the program.

Learners with non-Canadian/non-United States education

Learners presenting non-Canadian/non-United States (US) Nursing diplomas who have completed a Canadian RN bridging program are eligible for admission.

Learners presenting non-Canadian/non-United States (US) degrees for admission and/or possible transfer credit, must obtain one of the following:

• an (IQAS) assessment* that compares the credential completed to education in Canada. No other assessments will be accepted. 
• if seeking additional transfer credits, a specialized or course-by-course evaluation of post-secondary course work from the (IQAS) is required.

Official transcripts for any completed Canadian or US courses or programs in Nursing, taken to obtain licensure in Canada, must be submitted.

* Learners who leave the Post-RN Bachelor of Nursing program for another program at 51ÎÛÂþwill be required to provide a specialized or course-by-course assessment.

Program requirements

Learners are required to follow the degree regulations that are in effect at the time of admission to the program. This also includes being responsible for ensuring that pre-requisite and co-requisite course requirements are met throughout their program. Learners who become inactive (have not registered for a course within 12 months from their last course contract end date) must re-apply.

Learners are strongly encouraged to register in their English course (ENGL 255 recommended) early in their program.

Specific regulations

Given the unique and professional nature of the Post-RN Bachelor of Nursing program, some of the general policies governing academic studies at 51ÎÛÂþare superseded by the regulations below.

1. Nursing courses (NURS)
   • Learners are not permitted multiple withdrawals (two or more) from the sme course. Doing so without the Program Director's approval may result in removal from the program. Registration approval may be denied at the discretion of the Program Director. The Program Director's decisions in this regard are final.
2. 51ÎÛÂþwill not normally award additional transfer credit for nursing courses/certificates that are more than 5 years old at the time of the request. If evidence of current practice in the content area is submitted, this regulation may be waived. Credit will not be awarded for non-nursing required, support and option courses that are more than 10 years old at the time of the request.
3. Learners will be permitted a maximum of 5 years to complete all degree requirements from date of admission. No exceptions will be granted. If it becomes impossible for a learner to complete all degree requirements by the program end date, they will be removed from the program and their status changed to unclassified.
4. Learners who have been awarded 2 failing grades in 1 or more nursing courses will be automatically withdrawn from the Post-RN Bachelor of Nursing program, with no opportunity for re-admission.
5. Learners must complete all degree requirements and maintain an overall GPA of 2.00 to be eligible for graduation.

Program structure

Course requirements

Learners must ensure that they have completed all prerequisite and corequisite course requirements in accordance with the prerequisite declaration form. Before registering in a course, learners should determine whether they may be eligible for transfer credit for the course. Please review the syllabus for each course for details. Learners may register in Post-RN Bachelor of Nursing courses as unclassified, unless they were unable to continue in the program related to specific regulation 4 (above).

NOTE: We strongly recommend completing 300-level nursing courses before 400-level nursing courses.

Clinical placement

FHD learners in a clinical placement are bound by the Clinical Placement Misconduct Policy. Any actions or behaviours that fall under the scope of the University’s Academic Misconduct Policy, Non-Academic Misconduct Policy, or Academic Integrity Policy will continue to be dealt with under those policies.
